Blog Aim

The aim of this blog is really to make a compendium of work at The Pilgrim’s House before finally it becomes a gîte in 2018.
Alongside I want to delve into the interesting history of this house as well as the lives of its previous owners. It was built between 1749 and 1769 so has been through many changes of ownership, although the same family had owned it until I bought it, run down and full of termites in 2016.
I’m a builder, with a registered company in France, so I stand in good stead getting the old place back into order.

I love telling a story too, and this medium is perfect for me. It brings together my work and my hobby – photography.

There’ll be lots of variation. I love telling a story with pictures, tables and video snippets, so I’ll attempt to mix things up a bit. As the actual renovation work starts, I’ll post videos of the techniques I’ve learned to transform the house into a modern day version of the 18th century house.

I’ll start with the outline of what I’ll be doing, the planning and demolition, then the new openings I’ll need, and then each stage until I’ve completed the work.

The gîte site itself will appear here on this website, together with everything you’ll need to book a holiday in this quiet retreat in the South of France.
It will have 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, large sitting room, large open kitchen dining room, games room, viewing terrace, a fountain terrace with a beautiful 18th century wall fountain, an upper terrace, a garden terrace with raised walls, Mediterranean plants and herbs, private 10m x 5m outdoor pool.

If you have any ideas that you think may help me make this blog more interesting, then I’d be happy to listen to them. You can contact me here
